The mission, or charism, the Society has been given by God is three-fold:
1) To make God known and loved
2) To help men and women live the life of grace
3) To seek out the lost.
Our mission-field is the parish. In a parish you can find both those who have a living faith and others living within the parish boundaries, who don't know God or His goodness. To live without the light of God is to live without the source of ultimate hope and love, to live without a true sense of our life's purpose and direction. People suffer for not knowing God and His love. We want to help every soul to grow in friendship with God.
In the early autumn of 2020, after many years of prayer and discussion, Fr. Shane presented the first men and women with an invitation to discern a vocation to the religious life. They met with each other weekly, learning about the religious life and praying. They made a retreat together in December of 2020 and in the summer of 2021 they made the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola for the first time.
In November 2021 the Society was founded as a Private Association of the Faithful by the Archbishop of Tuam and placed under the patronage of Our Lady of Knock. That same month two men entered as candidates. In September of 2022 two women entered as candidates, having made that decision during the Spiritual Exercises too. In September of 2023 the Society received them as its first novices for a two-year Novitiate. We are moving forward in a process of discernment and formation towards life-long vows of poverty, chastity and obedience.
The Society consists of a men's and a women's branch, who live separately, but who work closely together on our mission. All religious orders are places of communion. Within religious life you are consecrated to God and belong to a kind of spiritual family. In a religious order you give of yourself in love and are loved. There each is appreciated and challenged to grow.
This communion points people towards the Most Holy Trinity and our vocation to sharing life with God. We have a special sense of this because our Society was named in the Holy Trinity’s honour.
We have a strong sense of being blessed by God to have been called into this community.
The Society has a Carmelite and Ignatian Spirituality. The Carmelite tradition has its roots in the 12th Century, when hermits settled on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land. It has produced some of the greatest spiritual masters in the Church's history.
The Ignatian tradition was born from the experience of St. Ignatius of Loyola, a soldier turned contemplative missionary. It has produced some of the most dedicated, faithful and innovative missionaries in the Church's history.
These spiritual traditions emphasise different but mutually enriching elements of the life of the soul. They inform our formation, apostolic work and many features of our common life.
We serve in the Parish of Carna in Connemara in the West of Ireland. The parish is a ruggedly beautiful place steeped in Christian history. The local people are some of the most generous and welcoming people you could ever find.
Tá an Paroiste san Ghaeltacht freisin. Tá an teanga agus an cultúr an-tabhachtach don muintir na háite. Tá sé feiliúnach go thugann misinéirí meas ar an gcultúr atá siad. Da bhrí sin, foghlaíonn muid Gaeilge agus labhraíonn muid Gaeilge inár obair gach uile lá.
God has a plan for your life. Could He be calling your here? We are looking for men and women (18-35) who have a generous spirit to join us as brothers and sisters in our Society. Our life is not easy. Responding to Jesus' words to "deny yourself every day, take up your cross and follow me," we dedicate ourselves to prayer, self-denial and apostolic work for the sake of souls. We embrace the challenges of formation and want God to change us and help us grow. We seek to engage in our mission and common life with joy.
If that is something which attracts you, and you want to hear more, please reach out to us at info@mostholytrinity.ie or through the "Contact Us" form for an initial conversation.
